BAA, the operator of several UK airports, warned, however, that some cancellations are still likely as a result of earlier disruptions.

It added that Heathrow airport is open, with both runways in operation. “We're working hard with the airlines to minimise disruption and operate a near full service today,” said a BAA spokesperson.

Gatwick airport was reported to be open and operating on a near-normal schedule, with only a small number of delays expected. Officials at the airport are advising passengers to check in for their flights as normal.

Southampton and Stansted airports were both reported to be operating normally, while Aberdeen, Edinburgh and Glasgow airports were said to be open and that services were “near normal”.

Eurostar cancelled a few of its services for the day. From London to Paris, train 9004, departing London at 06:55 and train number 9044, departing London at 17:35, will not run.

From Paris to London, train 9015, departing Paris at 09:07, and train 9049, departing Paris at 17:43 are also cancelled.

Passengers with reservations on these trains will be accommodated on the next available departures.
