Thousands of Brits have begun to look outside the eurozone for their holidays, particularly with the strength of the euro these days, and Turkey is emerging as the new hotspot, according to figures recently released by M&S Money.

M&S Money has reported an increase in the sale of Turkish currency of 53 per cent since this time last year, and the number of Brits spending their holidays in Turkey is topped only by numbers of visitors from Germany and Russia.

Last year, almost two million UK tourists holidayed in Turkey and, according to the ABTA, the bookings for this year are up by 20 per cent.

The chief of travel services for M&S, Fraser Millar, said: "The huge increase in sales of Turkish currency is not surprising, with the relative power of the euro against the pound meaning Brits are getting more for their money by opting for destinations like Turkey.”

Millar added: "This trend is confirmed by the fact that there has also been a large increase in sales of Egyptian currency this year."

Adequate travel cover becomes increasingly more important as Brits continue to seek out more 'exotic' destinations, outside of western Europe.
