The third weekend of the Six Nations international rugby tournament is approaching and many Britons plan to travel across the waters to enjoy the madness. Those on ferries and in the Chunnel this weekend are being advised by experts not to forget travel insurance in all the excitement of the matches.

The Six Nations tournament is a long standing tradition which pits the rugby teams of England, Wales, Ireland, Scotland, Italy and France against each other. This weekend’s games will take place in Paris, drawing spectators from Britain and around Europe.

Halifax Travel Insurance is urging travellers, whether they have tickets to matches in Ireland, Italy or France, to ensure they have adequate insurance coverage before leaving home for the game.

As exciting as the matches may be, travellers are being urged to consider taking the time to investigate taking out an annual travel policy rather than a single trip policy for the rugby game alone. Often times annual policies can save travellers money, especially in the long run, and make heading off to weekend rugby games at the last minute much more convenient.

According to Paul Birkhead of Halifax Travel Insurance, although passports and tickets are often checked before travel, insurance policies are often neglected and even forgotten.

Mr Birkhead added: "With more and more of us taking short breaks abroad, annual travel insurance is proving a more attractive proposition for many people. With little difference in price and in some cases actually cheaper, it makes sense to take out annual cover."
