Last Friday, Aer Lingus, publicly announced that it would continue to partner with Mondial Assistance Ireland in order to offer travel insurance for its European customer base.

The decision was the result of a competitive tendering process. The decision to partner with the Mondial Assistance Group, which operates worldwide, was made because of the company’s extensive experience with online insurance products and comprehensive policies.

The partnership between the airline and the insurance company is currently in its second year of operations. The contract gives Mondial the right to provide travel insurance packages to customers in Europe, in their local language through the Aer Lingus website.

Websites for insurance with the airline were launched for Ireland and the UK last December. Twelve more countries have since been added including Spain, Germany, France, The Netherlands and Italy.

Insurance offered on the website is approximately 33 per cent less expensive than the premium prices previously offered by the airline, yet the policies provided still offer high levels of coverage to travellers including emergency medical assistance.

Niall Walsh, Deputy Chief Executive for Aer Lingus said: "With Mondial Assistance as our travel insurance administration partner, Aer Lingus customers can now book excellent value travel insurance at competitive rates. Moreover, customers now have the convenience of booking their travel insurance at the same time as booking a flight, all in the one seamless transaction on aerlingus.com."
