During 2006 around 1.2million people took a cruising holiday. During 2007 that number has grown to 1.35million. Cruising is no longer seen as a holiday entirely for aged travellers nor is the World Cruise necessarily the most popular choice for once in a lifetime travellers. Cruising has opened up to all ages and that included Saga offering trips for 21 year olds and cruises specifically for lesbians or gay men.
The total number of cruisers in 2008 is set to increase further with even larger ships offering a trip to almost anywhere there's water. The Royal Carribean's new as yet unamed ship will set sail in 2009-2010 with the capacity for over 5,400 passengers. P&O Cruises will launch its new super ship the Ventura, the largest ship to be built specifically for the UK market. Cruising to the Med is still as popular btu as many as 46,000 people during 2007 preffered to sail on Expedition Cruises to places such as Greenland, the Arctic and Iceland. During 2006 450,000 people chose to cruise around the Baltics.
Cheaptravelinsurance offers cover for cruisers as standard on all its policies.
