Recommendation by the CAA to increase charges

Travel Insurance News - 20/11/2007

The Civil Aviation Authority have published its proposals to increase landing charges at UK airport by £10. The report was critical of the airport operator BAA, and Gatwick and Heathrow in particular, for letting passengers down saying they "deserve better thatn they have been provided with in recent years". They also published proposals on what BAA can charge airlines for using Heathrow and Gatwick airports for the five years from April 2008.

The increase would mean adding £11.97 per passenger at Heathrow and £6.07 per passenger at Gatwick. The CAA is pushing for increased financial incentives on each airport to deliver higher services with greater consistency and an improved infrastructure. Their recommendations include cutting waiting times down to five minutes for security checks.
