Transatlantic routes could open up to other airlines

Travel Insurance News - 31/10/2007

For the past 30 years Heathrow Airport has upheld restrictive competition for its most lucrative air routes to the US. Currently the only airlines allowed to offer trans atlantic routes out of Heathrow, stipulated via a treaty with Britain and the US are; BA Virgin, United and American airlines.

The competition will heat up as Delta snd Air France team up to announce their first ever transatlantic flights, Delta most likely to offer flights to New York and Atlanta and Air France to Los Angeles. The two airlines, part of the Skyteam alliance want to share the revenue and co ordinate fares and scheduals. The current restrictions will end in March with other airlines trying to secure other slots./p>
