A rise in global temperatures has prompted a survey to declare that holidays to the Mediterranean are destined to be a thing of the past. The rise in temperature will mean that British travellers will find traditional resorts abroad to be too hot and suffer from serious water shortages. The report says that by "2030 the traditional British package holiday to a Mediterranean beach resort may be consigned to the scrapheap of history, replaced by a rise in tourists staying at home or engaging in health, cultural, sports and 'beauty' tourism".

The study says that long-haul destinations such as Florida may be hit by ever-more powerful hurricanes and a loss of beaches, while droughts, floods and storms could increase.

Parts of the UK are already seeing a resurgance in holidaymakers as more people stay at home and enjoy destinations such as Cornwall, Poole and Dorset.
