New legislation being proposed calls for a ban on airlines from publishing fares that fails to include all charges including taxes. The European Commission wants to force airlines to publish their fare tariff in full in order to make it easier for travelers to compare flights between airlines, if approved by MEP's the legislation could come into effect from autumn 2007. The new legislation would mean that Ryanair and easyJet would need to revise their booking procedures as these added costs do not appear on their online process until the customer has almost completed the booking transaction. The Commission wants airlines to publish the full prices of tickets at any point of sale advertising or whenever a fare is published; this is all subject to the wording and at what stage the price becomes transparent to the customer. The European Commission wants to see an end to discrimination on air fares based on residence. Currently airlines can sell fares on a single route basis at varying prices in different markets.
