British Airways have announced a change to their baggage allowance rules. It has streamlined its policy to make it simpler to follow. It will limit economy class to checking in a single bag weighing not more than 23kg.
The new allowance will be of no benefit to domestic passengers who will only be allowed from October 11th to check in one single piece of luggage at not more than 23kg. The airline will no longer check in baggage weighing more than 23kg.
Passengers who travel from the 11th October will have to take out any thing that weighs over 23kg, unlike previously when any domestic passenger traveled on board could take luggage weighing up to 32kg. This is not such an issue for first class or business passengers as they are able to check two bags on with a combined weight of 46kg (23kg each bag). Items can be transferred to hand luggage. From July 5th passengers will be able to carry of unlimited weight on board as long as they can lift he luggage into the overhead locker.
If the excess luggage can not be put into the overhead locker than a second bag must be checked in as additional luggage at a cost of £30 for domestic and £60 for short haul flights and £120 for long haul. The excess fee can be paid at the airport or from July 12th passengers will be able to pay in advance making use of an online discount facility of 20%.
