Taking out travel insurance and getting adequate pre-trip practice should be the essential preparations for holiday-makers about to hit the ski slopes this Easter.
Representatives from travel insurance companies have been encouraging winter sports enthusiasts to get in the mood for their trips by heading to one of Britain's increasingly popular dry-slope ranges, with the Xscape centre in Milton Keynes now boasting the longest indoor slope in Europe, at 170 metres.
"Skiing remains a very popular pastime for British holidaymakers but not everyone takes the necessary precautions," said Christian Young, chief executive of Go Travel Insurance, and this relates both to getting practice and taking insurance cover.
Last year, in the US alone, Britons experienced 165,000 ski and snowboard related injuries, with many others facing problems with lost equipment.
Yet, of the 1.2 million ski trips booked in 2004, one in seven passengers were made vulnerable in the face of these dangers by taking no travel insurance at all.
Consumers can look online to examine the best deals in travel insurance tailored for winter sports devotees.
