People in the UK who are planning a holiday in Europe are being advised to make sure they organise travel insurance, even if they have a European Health Insurance Card (EHIC).
The EHIC replaced the old E111 form at the beginning of this year and will provide Britons abroad a basic level of health services for free or at a discounted cost.
However, the Post Office is warning that people will only be entitled to minimum medical treatment - which is likely to be less than one would receive on the NHS at home.
As a result, travellers risk being forced to fork out for expensive medical bills in the event of a serious accident or illness.
Anyone looking to arrange travel insurance to ensure they are covered for any eventuality while they are away can check out the best and cheapest deals online.
