The Prince's Trust is hoping to tap into the burgeoning market in challenging, outward-bounds holidays among British consumers.

The body, which celebrates its 30th anniversary this year, has launched a series of holidays aimed at members of the public keen to raise money for charity in the most adventurous way.

Fundraisers on the Challenge Event programme are set to embark next month on a coast to coast race across Central America, involving kayaks, river rafts and bikes to cross the course of mountains, rivers and jungles.

Future events this year will include a scaling of the most formidable Scandinavian peaks, a cycling challenge alongside the Great Wall of China, and a pony trek across the Andes.

2007 is set to offer a mountain climb in Kenya, a chance to climb three volcanoes in Italy, and a desert challenge in Namibia.

Britons looking to discover new challenges in different corners of the globe can travel without fear of costs from injury by taking advantage of the increasingly competitive deals in travel insurance, which can be examined online.
