Don't leave travel insurance 'til the last minute!

It seems that older people can be just as last minute as younger people, claims a new report.

It seems that older people can be just as last minute as younger people, claims a new report.

According to Saga's new poll, when it comes to trying new things, the over 50s will make snap decisions and suddenly try something new.

Around six out of ten would like to start a new activity and ten per cent participate in extreme or highly energetic sports such as snowboarding or mountain climbing.

Andrew Goodsell, group chief executive, Saga, said: 'Today's over 50s are more prepared than ever before to learn a new skill and take on demanding and physically challenging pursuits.'

However, when planning a holiday, four in ten consumers will continue with this haphazard approach to life and will buy their travel insurance at the last moment.

This can be a problem, says Saga, because if a holiday is cancelled (and 35 per cent of claims a year are for this reason) a travel policy won't be in place to reimburse you.

Mr Goodsell added: 'Our advice to anyone planning a holiday is to ensure that insurance is in place as soon as you have booked your holiday.'
