Brits who overindulge on the slopes this year could invalidate their travel insurance policies, claims a leading insurer.
On average, British winter holidaymakers drink over three and a half times the recommended number of alcoholic units on winter sports holidays.
Nearly one in nine said they head to the slopes feeling 'a little worse for wear', which caused eight per cent of those polled to have an accident.
Half of these alcohol-induced incidents needed hospital treatment and five per cent said another skier was involved.
These figures emphasise the importance of travel insurance, as well as the significance of not invalidating a travel insurance policy.
Vicky Emmott, senior underwriter at Halifax Travel Insurance, the firm that carried out the research, commented: 'It's important that people remember to limit their drinking to sensible levels while enjoying their winter sports holidays - especially as the majority of travel insurance policies will exclude accidents which occur whilst the policyholder is under the influence.'
