Newly married couples love nothing more than a getaway to an exotic beach destination, says a new survey.
In National Savings and Investment's (NS&I) new poll, a luxurious beach getaway came top of the destination wish list, followed by a cruise around the Caribbean and then a romantic city break.
Country hotels and touring Australia were also favourite honeymoon options.
June was the most popular month for partners to propose, with nine per cent of all 'question popping' going on at this time and the majority of proposals (40 per cent) taking place in the privacy of couples' homes.
Karen Jones, marketing director at National Savings and Investments suggests saving up so that you can cover all of the costs of your holiday.
'Starting a savings fund early can save a lot of money in the long term and also help get a new marriage off to a happier start without the pressure of debt,' she advised.
If you are planning a special honeymoon, do not forget to incorporate the cost of your travel insurance into the budget.
Honeymoons are extremely precious and should only happen once in a lifetime, so it is important to take out travel insurance so that nothing can ruin your holiday.
