Gorgeous catwalk icon Claudia Schiffer has declared that Mallorca is one of her favourite holiday destinations.

The German supermodel, who has been taken on by tourism authorities to promote Majorca, Minorca, Ibiza and Formentora as a golf destination, says she began her love affair with the Balearics as a child.

'My love for Mallorca started when I was a young child because my parents started building a house there in the seventies,' said Ms Schiffer.

'So any summer holiday, Easter holiday and weekend was spent in Mallorca and I still do.'

Travellers arriving at the Balearics for a round or two of golf are on the increase, especially because the Mallorca Classic, one of the last rounds on the PGA European, is held there.

'It was launched in 2003 and since then the tournament has experienced an increase in prize money, improved course design and received a lot of media coverage,' explains Schiffer.

The 2006 Mallorca Classic is scheduled for October (19th to 22nd) at Pula Golf. If you are thinking of flying out for this event, you could pre-book your travel insurance online.
