British workers are choosing not to take their full holiday entitlement, losing out on £627 million of paid holiday every year, says a new report.

According to a poll by Churchill Travel Insurance, three in five employees have got to the end of the year and realised they were still owed holiday.

Just under half of these people said they would book time off at the last minute and 26 per cent planned to carry over their holiday into next year, yet some were so immersed in work they chose to forgo it altogether.

Psychotherapist Christine Webber suggests that the work ethic is becoming too strong, reinforced by the 43 per cent of people who said they felt guilty taking time off of work.

'Time off work is very important,' she explained. 'We need to stop believing that we're so indispensable at work and try to look after our minds and bodies much more.

'Employers often allow their staff to go without their holidays in the mistaken belief that fewer vacations will result in more productivity.'

If you are booking time off for a planned holiday, do not forget your travel insurance if you are going abroad.

Travel insurance is vital for peace of mind and financial security.
