Australia has been named as next year's top choice of destination, according to a new survey.
Up and coming resorts such as Prague and Krakow were beaten off by more traditional tourist destinations such as Italy, which came in second place and third place Hawaii.
TripAdvisor asked 3,000 travellers where they would most like to go if money was no object.
Travellers were also asked to select their favourite airlines, and UK based British Airways (BA) emerged as the world's favourite carrier.
Amongst the British themselves, however, BA was rated as the worst airline.
The survey also revealed that natural disasters such as the Boxing Day tsunami and Hurricane Katrina impacted on tourism, with 85 per cent saying that the weather was now a consideration when booking holidays.
If you are going abroad, while you can try and avoid emergencies such as hurricanes, it is best to prepare for every eventuality and take out adequate travel insurance.
Travel insurance should compensate for any loss, damage, cancellation or curtailment if the time should come.
