Gay holidaymakers have voted Italy their favourite country to travel in, according to a new poll.

The land of gorgeous cuisine, olive groves and often homoerotic art has been named as best country in gay website outtraveler.com's new research, beating off competition from countries such as the UK and America, which have more extensive gay scenes.

Paris was named as the best city for gay travellers to visit, with London in second place and Amsterdam and Sydney in third.

Hawaii was hailed as the best island, and Puerto Rice, Maui, and Bali all made in into the top five islands category.

Whether you're travelling to tropical climbs such as Hawaii, or the cooler climate of Italy, it is important to have adequate travel insurance.
