Winter sports enthusiasts who are setting off some action on the Alps are being warned of the risk of 'holiday crime'.
The latest survey from Lloyds TSB Insurance claims that the cost of theft to British travellers could be as high as £200 this year.
Of the survey's respondents, one in three said that they'd had items stolen from their accommodation, and 20 per cent admitted to having belongings taken from them in the street.
Money was the most likely commodity travellers were robbed of, with over half saying they had cash taken.
Digital cameras, jewellery and mobile phones were also commonly taken items.
The report underlines the need to take out adequate travel insurance before going away, and Phil Loney, managing director, Lloyds TSB Insurance, reiterates this message.
'For those who don't even have insurance to cover the costs, the reality could be even more sobering. It is absolutely vital that anyone travelling abroad, checks, checks and checks again, that they're insured.'
Winter sports can also result in various injuries, such as broken legs, so any en-piste activities should always be covered by reputable travel insurance.
