With around 20 million Brits planning to take a holiday this autumn, the Post Office is reminding travellers to carefully prepare for their trips away, and take out adequate insurance cover before they leave the UK.
A new survey reveals that Brits have different attitudes towards preparing for a holiday, and 61 per cent leave themselves less than a week to organise themselves for seven days in the sun.
Just under half of all short breakers reported high levels of stress as they were getting ready to go away, suggesting that people should give themselves more time to prepare, while in contrast, 68 per cent of travellers allocate a month to get ready for a two-week trip.
The lack of time that the majority of people have to make pre-travel arrangements, and the fact that Brits perceive a two-week holiday as a more important event than a short break, often leaves people without travel insurance cover.
Around one in three men said they wouldn't bother taking out travel insurance for a quick break, and 42 per cent of Londoners said they wouldn't bother with adequate travel insurance for a mini-break.
Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at Post Office explained the importance of decent travel insurance.
'Whether you are going away for a couple of days or a fortnight's holiday, you are just as susceptible to theft, loss or accidents,' he said.
'Make sure you avoid unwanted stress on holiday and enjoy your well-earned break by making sure you take out adequate travel insurance before you leave.'
If people take more than one trip abroad per annum, it could be worthwhile investing in a yearly travel policy, Mr Stacey added.
