Anyone looking to go on a backpacking holiday should definitely take out a good travel insurance policy, according to a leading industry information provider.

Bali - a popular destination for backpacking holidays - has again been the target of a recent terrorist attack, which should act as a reminder for any backpacking holidaymakers to ensure that that take out a policy that offers good cover against the threat of international terror, according to Total Travel insurance.

Backpackers should take out a policy that offers them trip cancellation cover, so that they can recover 100 per cent of their trip cost should they have to cancel their holiday because of terrorism or other issues.

Alex Velinov, president of Total Travel Insurance, explained, 'Since September 11th, we have been feeling a little safer domestically. Traveling internationally has been another story.'

He continued: Insurance will reimburse your trip investment in case your travels are disrupted or provide medical treatment and evacuation in case you get injured.'

Backpacking holidaymakers are also advised to take out a policy that offers trip insurance cover, in case they are forced to interrupt their holiday and travel home early.

They are also of course strongly advised to take out a policy that covers them in the unfortunate case of accidental death and dismemberment.
