Italy has this week been gearing up to hold the annual Barcolana festival.

This annual boat race takes place on annually on the 2nd Sunday of October, and today more than 2000 boast participate.

The event started as a race for smaller boats that were not allowed to compete in official competitions because of their size, and has grown to such an extent that this Sunday, Trieste will see around 250,000 visitors descend on the town.

When travelling abroad, it is always advisable to take out good travel insurance.

Some Brits mistakenly believe that an EU Card will cover them while away in Europe, but it does not compensate for full travel insurance.

Travel cover will protect against the theft or loss of stolen belongings as well as giving financial back up in case flights are delayed or cancelled.

The competition is named after Societa Velica di Barcola e Grignano, the sailing club who organises what is now one of the biggest sailing events of the year.
