Most travellers know that using a mobile phone abroad incurs a higher cost than when at home.
The EU has today announced that it has set up a new facility to try and bring these costs down.
A website has been launched that compares mobile calling costs abroad, to try and help tourists save money on their phone bills.
If you are taking a mobile phone away on holiday, travel insurance should always be purchased to protect it from loss, theft or damage.
When travelling abroad, it is also important to take out travel insurance to prevent any large bills in the event of an accident, as an EU card is not a substitute for full travel insurance.
Viviane Reding, the European Commissioner for information society and media, said that the EU was currently reviewing mobile costs abroad, and said they might 'take measures' to cut them.
Brits are some of the worst hit tourists, as they pay more than most countries to answer calls when away, as well as being charged more to dial out.
