The average cost of a passenger trying to make their way home after a EUJet flight let them down in July was £100, claims a new report by the CAA.
Budget airline EUJet went bankrupt a few months ago, and stopped running flights, leaving thousands of passengers stranded abroad, reports the Times.
Families of four who were left without transportation home during the EUJet flight cancellations faced average costs of nearly £400.
Passengers were forced to pay for transport, food and water while they made their way home.
The report highlights the importance of travel insurance, which should protect families in the event of cancellation or curtailment.
Normally travel insurance policy holders would be reimbursed if they needed repatriation, or had additional hotel costs because of a cancelled flight.
One passenger re-lived what happened, saying 'The whole experience was a nightmare as we travelled with two small children, leaving us with huge bills to get back to the UK and then to get to Kent for the car.'
