European travel by train is now easier than ever as Eurail has announced changes to the way it prices its train tickets.
From 2006, train travellers will be able to purchase single country rail pass tickets, making the train experience more flexible as well as potentially cheaper.
'Inter railing' is extremely popular with travelling students and backpackers, as an easy and affordable way to see the sights of Europe.
However, with any sort of travelling, it is always best to take out adequate insurance cover.
Some travel insurance policies are tailored specifically for backpackers, and will protect against some of the more daring adventures that young people want to take, such as bungee jumping or hiking.
From January 1, the new Eurail National Pass programme will allow travellers to buy passes for any one of these countries: Finland, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Norway, Poland, Romania, Spain or Sweden.
The pass is available for three to ten travel days, for either one or two months and will hopefully encourage extra tourism in these places.
'The Eurail National Pass was created to match the way many of our customers travel today,' said Rene de Groot, Eurail's managing director.
'More and more overseas visitors are coming to Europe for shorter periods of time, and this new pass will allow them to comfortably explore one country in depth in one trip.'
Travellers might like to remember that although the European Health Insurance Card will provide medical assistance in European countries it does not compensate for holding full travel insurance.
