The Swiss resort of Zermatt has been named the best place to ski in the whole of Europe says a new poll.

According to Where to Ski and Snowboard, Zermatt boasts great food, great scenery and fantastic restaurants.

However, before setting off for an alpine experience, it is best to ensure families have adequate travel insurance.

Special winter sports travel policies have developed by some insurers to provide the best protection to those participating in sports such as skiing, as some ordinary travel policies may not to extend to winter sports cover.

The resorts were rated on the speed of their lifts, their slopes, and the resort villages.

Sella Ronda in Italy has the title of best snowmaking operation in Europe, Val d'Isere, France was awarded the most undergraded run, and Ischgl Austria won the accolade of the most up-to-date lift system.

Kitzbuhel in Austria won the annual awrad for best new European resort.

And remember, it is always best to check your travel insurance policy before attempting any travel.
