According to new figures from Text2Insure, 26 per cent of Brits have enjoyed a holiday romance, equating to 11.89 million people.

The allure of a holiday flirtation can be very strong, and it is worth remembering that when going abroad, it is wise to take out comprehensive travel insurance.

Travel cover is a reliable safety net for travellers, so that if an emergency does occur when away, the burden of the financial cost should be underwritten by the insurer.

If belongings are lost or stolen, if a traveller requires emergency medical treatment, if a resort becomes inhabitable, travel insurance will pay for repatriation, refund bills and replace items.

The romantic research further revealed that men were more likely to indulge in a liaison than women, and people in the 25 to 34 age group the most likely of all.

Regionally, 38 per cent of people in London claim to have dabbled in some romance abroad, the highest for any region, and is Spain the most lust-inducing country with 3.56 million people admitting to a fling there.
