Every year, New York celebrates the Italian community's oldest and most vibrant fiesta, San Gennaro.

From September 15, the area becomes an escape for New Yorkers, allowing them to forget that they are in one of America's financial hubs, writes whatsonwhen.com

Travelling abroad can pose some potential problems for holidaymakers, and it is important to take out comprehensive travel cover before departure.

For example, lost or stolen money, delays in travel, cancellations and medical expenses can all leave a nasty hole in the wallet.

Travel cover, however, should reimburse for any expenses and festival-goers could consider buying travel insurance online before departure.

The San Gennaro festival attracts more than three million people to Mulberry Street for food, games, rides, a parade and a religious procession.

The fiesta is famous for it's cuisine, and there is lots of it. From sausages to exquisite pastries, and sumptuous ice-cream, Gennaro will what the appetite of most travellers.

To reach Mulberry Street, take the number six train to Bleecker Street and walk one block east.
