How people use their leftover holiday money can establish whether they end up making a saving or a loss.
A new report reveals a variety of attitudes to spare holiday cash, from 23 per cent donating it to charity to one in twenty people simply losing it.
Most people tend to save this money for next year's trip, and it might be an idea to put the spare cash towards travel insurance.
Travel cover should be a priority for anyone travelling abroad. Unpredictable weather, the risk of accident or illness, lost baggage and delays could result in some nasty expense bills.
Travel cover should insure that these bills are taken care of, not leaving people out of pocket.
The research suggests that splurging remaining cash at the airport can be just as wasteful as losing the money, with 72 per cent regretting their last minute purchases.
'With almost three quarters of people regretting their holiday purchases, we are reminding UK travellers of the benefits of keeping hold of their currency and changing it back when they return home,' Hugh Stacey, head of travel services at the Post Office.
