Holiday singletons abroad are a lot more of a common sight, reveals a new report.

Two thirds of Brits, (65 per cent) either already holiday alone, or likely to at some point in the future, claims the research and with adequate travel insurance, going away alone need not involve any risk.

Nearly a third of people have already been on holiday alone, with one in three of these giving the reason for it that they are divorced or single, while their friends are in relationships or married with children.

Half of people in the survey who haven't yet holidayed alone said they'd seriously consider it.

'Society is changing. As life events, like getting married or buying a first property, are happening later in life single people are taking the initiative,' said Fay Hogg from Mint, who carried out the research.

People who holiday alone seem to feel more confident about the prospect, and 25 per cent of the survey's respondents said they preferred their own company and 4 per cent of those who do have a partner still prefer to take separate holidays by themselves.

A total of 93 per cent worried about the financial implications of travelling alone. However, if customers shop around for the best deal, costs such as travel insurance do not have to be high.

One method to cut costs that experts suggest is booking flights and accommodation separately on the internet to avoid single room supplements.
