Holidaymakers who will be using their boats this year are warned of the spiralling costs of accidents by a new report.
There are around 450,000 boats moored in the UK and with the warmer months coming up, combined with the school holidays, nautical folk might be tempted to take their boats out for a spin.
However, people would be wise to take out some sort of travel insurance for themselves and the boat, as accidents show that damage bills can be a nasty surprise.
The average repair bill for a boat is £3,000, and one unfortunate owner reported costs of £42,000.
The report, complied by Saga Boat Insurance, also warns boat owners to check their policy details, as some might only cover the vessel when it is sailed in certain bodies of water.
When going away on any type of break, whether by sea, land or air, it is always important to take out travel insurance. It should protect holidaymakers against damages, losses and thefts and medical bills.
