Places that are used as film locations see a surge in tourist popularity, finds a new report.
Tourist locations that have been featured in films have seen visitor numbers increase by 30 per cent says the research.
Travellers going to visit these places should consider taking out travel insurance before they go. Experts say that Thailand has become increasingly popular since the screening of The Beach, and exotic holidays can be potentially hazardous to holidaymakers.
Tropical diseases such as malaria and dengue fever are a risk factor to the visitor and travel insurance should pick up any medical bills if the worst did happen.
The awesome landscape of New Zealand has also become immortalised in the Lord of the Rings trilogy, and again, travellers should ensure they are fully covered by travel insurance before setting off.
Holidaymakers who wish to take to the slopes in New Zealand should also bear in mind that winter sports cover will protect them if any injuries occur en piste.
'We've really noticed the emergence of the set-jetter in recent years,' said Halifax Travel Insurance's David Rochester.
'Set-jetters are people who fall in love with parts of the world, having seen them in movies and read about them in books and go there on holiday,' he added.
