As families head off on their summer holidays, parents are being warned about how vital it is they have travel insurance that covers their children.
August is the peak month for family holidays, but many people are travelling without having travel insurance cover for their young ones.
It is especially important considering the treatment of common ailments such as stomach problems and dehydration can cost hundreds of pounds.
Research from Bradford & Bingley reveals that the average claim for someone under the age of 18 stands at £413.71.
Dave Foyle, head of general insurance at Bradford & Bingley, said: 'In the excitement to get to the beach many travellers forget how important it is to have comprehensive insurance cover and are faced with a nasty surprise when they discover how expensive treatment of even common illnesses such as gastroenteritis or a broken wrist can cost.
'It is crucial that wherever you're travelling to this summer that you are properly protected with comprehensive travel insurance. Ensuring that you have cover in place for your children is vital.'
