Summer holidays in the sun should be relaxing and enjoyable experiences, yet new research has shown that most Brits find the run-up to their break very stressful.

However, preparation doesn't have to be traumatic or time-consuming. Once the big things like booking the holiday and travel insurance have been done, the main worries for consumers should be removed.

According to the survey by one of the major travel insurers, ten per cent of Brits claim that anxiety over their holiday has given them panic attacks, and one in five suffers from sleepless nights worrying about preparations.

The study revealed that men were most anxious about how they would pay for their holiday, with 47 per cent of British men dwelling on this.

Meanwhile, 35 per cent of men said that completing work and clearing desks before getting away concerned them.

Women had different anxieties and just under half panicked over the completion of pre-holiday chores.

However, to ensure that people truly relax from the self-imposed pressure of preparations, holidaymakers should take out travel insurance. Knowing that they are covered abroad against any eventuality will be a load off people's minds.

And as the survey by Halifax Travel Insurance revealed, with as many people worrying about the cost of their holiday, taking out travel insurance will cover the expense if something should go wrong.
