For hard-up customers wishing to get away for a short break or holiday, a new type of holiday deal could be the answer.

Doorstep Holidays is running a scheme where holidaymakers can 'fly now and pay later'.

They can book a three-day trip to Paris for £11 a month, for example, a ten-day trip to Thailand for £69 per month and an 18-day holiday to Australia for £150 a month, freeing up more cash to spend on travel essentials such as travel insurance.

Currently, holidaymakers pay for their breaks and travel insurance before they go, sometimes meaning months of saving, but this new scheme makes exotic destinations much more accessible.

"People use interest free credit for so many other things in their lives that it makes perfect sense to expand that to include an annual holiday," said group managing director Bob Cole.

It means that holidaymakers can better plan spending on holiday-related items, and will hopefully lead to people being better equipped abroad. Buying items such as sun cream and travel insurance should leave less holidaymakers in trouble overseas.

The Association of British Travel Agents (ABTA) also praised the scheme.

"The closest you have now are low-deposit schemes," an ABTA spokesman told travelbite.co.uk.

He added: "Getting on for the majority of people buy a holiday on credit already using a credit card."

"This is a much more attractive option for people," the spokesman added.
