The Olympics of extreme winter sports, the Planet X Winter Games, is arriving in Australia and descending onto Mount Buller.

Held annually from July 16th to 19th, the four days are packed full of breathtaking competitions and daredevil displays that will really set your pulse racing.

The games include several different competition categories, on bike, board and skis, and big prize money attracts the very best in the business.

Perhaps the most impressive contest is the Big Air event, which sees fearless bikers soar off jumps, performing awesome stunts for the audience and judges.

Boarders and skiers compete in an equivalent "Slopestyle" race, on an obstacle-littered slope, where they can exhibit their skill.

For those thinking of a skiing holiday this year, don't forget your essential winter cover. Not everyone's a ski maverick, and it is comforting to know that if your half-pipe goes a little awry, there won't be huge medical bills to worry about.
