The British Insurers Brokers' Association (BIBA) is calling on more travel insurance companies to provide cover against terrorism.

Since September 11th 2001, many insurers have refused to insure against terrorism attacks.

This means that in some emergency situations, holidaymakers needing medical attention or a flight home could be forced to pay the bill themselves.

BIBA is advising all insurance holders to check their policy for such a terrorism exclusion.

Graeme Trudgill, BIBA's technical services manager, urges customers to choose their policies carefully: "Terrorist attacks are a growing threat and we would like to see more policies providing cover for this."

Terrorism attacks around the world have increased by roughly 274 per cent, the association predicts.
