Those countries in South East Asia that were badly effected by last year's tsunami in the Indian Ocean are still not receiving the levels of tourists expected.

Countries like Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Maldives are very much back in business after being hit on Boxing Day last year and visitors can now return for their paradise holidays accompanied by good travel insurance.

However, the latest AC Nielson figures show that bookings for the coming winter are still 35 per cent, 70 per cent and 46 per cent down for Thailand, Sri Lanka and the Maldives respectively.

"The general view is sales haven't picked up as well as people would like," Federation of Tour Operators director-general, Andy Cooper is quoted by Travel Weekly.

Although some areas remain devastated by the tsunami, all three countries still provide excellent holiday destinations and most areas are back in full tourism swing. As always, however, visitors are advised to buy good travel insurance before departure.
