The capital city and principal destination in the Balkan country of Slovenia, Ljublijana has everything a tourist could want from a European capital. The older part of ljublijana is divided into two districts both have fantastic old buildings including the old Town Hall and the other has the Philharmonic Society Building dating from the 1700's.

The land around Ljublijana has been occupied since the time of the Roman Empire. Much of the capital was built in the Baroque style with the 12th century Ljubljama Castle dominating the landscape. Some of the granduer and pomp that make the city so enchanting came about under the Hapsburg regime, the number of houses, churches and other buildings that have been preserved from that time is truly impressive.

Ljublijana is home to one of the finest Art Nouveau constructions of the city's Austro/Hungarian age in its Dragon Bridge. Tivoli Park is a popular tourist destination it has a fish pond dating back to 1880 and a botanical garden. Another beautiful building with an interesting history is the Cathedral of Saint Nicholas, a beautifully decorated church that has survived being burnt to the ground more that once an is now a focal point.

Ljublijana is not surprisingly a cultural hotspot as well, playing host to a variety of theatrical and musical performances on a regular basis. Many musical styles are on offer here, including classical, jazz, blues and rock, and the club scene is fairly lively as well. Nightlife can easily stretch into the morning hours with the city's student population making sure there are plenty of places to drink and party. Overall, Ljublijana has something for everyone.
